The art, world building, overarching events, and excerpts were wonderful. However the character interactions for certain newly introduced characters felt weak. Though I think that could be contributed in part to the world building being the focus in this volume.
Bianca's mother's motivations and interactions felt lacklustre, though that might be because I had high expectations for them. I also didn't expect them to appear so soon in the story.
The quick introduction and subsequent death of Bianca's best friend's companions was disappointing. It felt like they had character to them. But were instead ultimately there to make the events in the tunnels feel dangerous without actually endangering the main cast.
