There's some body horror here but this is more sad fantasy than anything else. You'll see Miri grieving the whole time: grieving her wife who has not yet passed, grieving her mother and then grieving her wife again. I did enjoy the little intricacies of their relationship, as well as the way this was written.

It intrigues me how fascinaded M. R. James was with the idea of having spirits/ghosts stuck to objects. Most of the stories are what we now considered dark academia.

My favorite ones were:

1. "The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral" because I could really feel the despair.

2. "The Ash-Tree" because I'll always love a witch taking revenge.

Situationship final boss. It was cute.

What is the purpose of our life if not the one we assign to it?

The book was okay. Even though I get the circumstances of her upbringing, Hazel was still very annoying.

I did like that she ended up living for helself and for what she wanted.

The taboo, the guilt... Amen 🙏🏼

It reads like a Mexican telenovela lol. I'm not surprised of how horrible religious people have been since forever. Even though, the author is aiming this towards the hipocrisy of the Catholic Church I'm going to include most - if not all churches on the sin of being hipocrites. I was not expecting the amount of sexual violence in a 1700s text but here you go. And yeah, the Monk was a total POS and I'm siding with the Devil here.

Vampires and revenge? Hell yeah! Humanity in monsters and monstrosity in humans.

It felt like the obsession came out of nowhere but it was okay, entertaining.

This was exquisite. The horror, the religious trauma, human beings inherent cruelty... An absolute gem!

BTW the confessional booth scene had me kicking my feet.

OK so this was not for me. I went into to expecting scary stuff but it's more of a coming of age story but it felt... Corny. Fear of aging was relatable though.

I was getting annoyed at Kerian but he redeemed himself. It ended up being all cute. 

I love this book so much. I love how nature is described, how we can feel the monster's misery and desolation, as well as all the existential questions it poses.
 I love how ambivalent one feels towards creator and creation: I like Victor's hunger for knowledge and at the same I emphatize with the monster. You don't bring life into this world to abandon it. 
 The monster's pleas also made me think of humans pleading to God(s) that left us to mend for ourselves. So incredibly sad yet so wonderful this book is. 

“Beware, for I am fearless and therefore powerful.” 

I didn't know this was horror. I mean, there's the sorority between women which is lovely but the rest was pure horror: the feet binding, the suffering of being born a woman, how horrible and dangerous giving birth is, accommodating to men's needs over your own health. Most of it was horrible and I feel exhausted just from reading it. 

Aw this was really sweet. 

I get why there are so many mixed reviews with this one. It is darkly humorous and satirical and creepy and some people just don't fly with that, but what I don't get is people complaining about some of the gruesome stuff that happens in it... I mean you picked a horror book, did you expect rainbows?
 Anyway, I did liked it and I'm always up for women losing it. 

Quite forgettable 😔 characters weren't it for me 

I don't know what this says about me, but I felt more satisfaction than horror. 
 Moral of the story: Be kind to all creatures and don't be a dick. 

It is fucked up and sweet (?) at the same time. I hated how women are portrayed here. 

Using lycantrophy as a metaphor for female rage and trauma is such a creative idea. I wouldn't categorize this as horror though. On the contrary, I was cackling at times. 

Aw Call & Ryan are the cutest 💕 I loved this so much. It was hilarious, romantic, unserious, morbid, and cute at the same time. 

A bit repetitive. It does contain some useful and sensible pieces of advice. 

Brandon and Niko really grow on you. I just needed this after reading some other depressing stuff. I was cackling during Levi's chapter 😂 

Heart wrenching and brutal in its honesty. Human beings are capable of such cruelty... And this just reminded me of how much disdain I feel for most politicians. Ugh.
