I felt bad for Sally Thorne when so many reviewers panned this novel and labeled it as a major sophomore slump. How bad could it be? I thought. Well, the answer is, pretty bad. I've never been a fan of the “I love my brother's BFF” trope, but I thought this one had promise because the heroine and her brother were twins who both met the hero at the same time (usually the heroine is in love with her big brother's BFF, who sees her as a kid or a pal). But somehow the whole thing was just DOA. There's a lot of pining but there doesn't seem to be any real reason that the two can't just get over themselves and have at it, except then we wouldn't have a book. There's really nothing propeling the story forward except the sex they are not having. There isn't much of the charm or sparkle of Thorne's debut novel [b:The Hating Game 25883848 The Hating Game Sally Thorne https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1467138679l/25883848.SY75.jpg 45762345], and the epilogue that the author inexplicably provides here for that book only highlights the differences. Hopefully Thorne's next novel will bring back the magic.
