Creepy setting, plucky heroine, overbearing hero...I had to check to make sure this book was released in the 21st century, because it had the same vibe as a 1970s era gothic novel by Victoria Holt or Mary Stewart. Although I wasn't a big fan of the cliched MCs, I appreciated the book's clever plotting, which kept me guessing about whether the Bad Guy was human or ghost. Bonus points for the stray cat with a suitably regal name.
