How could I have missed this as a girl?!

Anne is a marvel of a human being, orphaned young in life, sent to work as a caretaker of children when she herself was a child, and yet filled with a zest for life and a joy of small delights. Anne rejoices when she is taken in by an old man and his sister and is allowed to attend school, where she flourishes, and as she is befriended by a girl her age there. Anne stumbles, allowing her temper to rule her good judgments at times, and making errors because of her lack of early instruction, but she apologizes sincerely for her mistakes and does not make the same mistakes again.

Anne is my favorite book character. I love this book.
