Maybe it was that the year anniversary of my Bachan's passing that made this book so much more emotional for me. She lived with Alzheimer's for the last decade of her life and her passing still feels so fresh. I loved the mother/daughter/sister relationships even more than The Joy Luck Club. LuLing was funny and so strong. Her story had so much heartache and the idea of all that she had gone through and seen was epic. What a gift that Ruth was able to read her mother's story in her own words. I wish I had that of my Bachan.
