I finally got around to reading this book tonight, and I wish I'd picked it up sooner. And I wish it was a complete story and wasn't so short. While I'm at it, I might as well wish writing reviews were easier.
The book drops you right into the action and keeps you there until the final page.
One of the things I actually most enjoyed about the book isn't it wasn't... clinical for want of a better word. Some crime thrillers I've read are very heavy on extreme violence and suffering. This book is quite light to read, won't give you nightmares, and isn't filled with pages of either gratuitous violence, or lurid descriptions of law enforcement professionals doing each other across any number of surfaces, although I always wonder how it is that in all these thrillers (even this one) everyone is hot.
The thing I most disliked about the book was that the story didn't conclude but ended on a cliff hanger without an iota of resolution. Still the remaining 7 books are cheap enough to buy them all at once I suppose.
One oddity about the book is that no less than four authors are listed for the book. However, I couldn't tell that from reading it. I've read technical computing books where multiple authors wrote different sections of a book which can be quite jarring, so this is another good point in the book's favour.
Either way, a good read - and considering the first book is (or at least at time of writing) free on Amazon.co.uk, a good deal to boot.
