This book is going to receive tons of criticism because it is mostly the same thing as The Love Hypothesis and the STEMinist novellas.
Formula:
- Same female character with hair color variations. Don't forget she is very very small
- Gigantic Adam Driver pining for the girl for years
- Enemies to lovers, a bit of miscommunication and a high level of stupidity on the girl side (despite her being super super smart)
As I've read everything Ally has written, my expectations were prepared for these issues, which is why it gets a good rating.
What I liked about the book:
- Levi is incredible and I'm in love with him. He is patient and attentive to Bee, understands her problems and I absolutely adored the way he communicated. There is nothing like a man written by a woman.
- Bee felt more mature than other Ally female characters
- Their relationship evolves naturally and feels real and relatable
- The conflict is well prepared and natural. This is probably the thing I enjoyed most in THL and it was well executed here as well.
What I think it could have been done better:
- the ending was a bit over the top, probably to create some distance from TLH storyline
- There is a large amount of miscommunication in the book that I don't consider necessary for the story flow
- The TM thing was very annoying
Overall, I preferred this book to THL. In my opinion, TLH was overhyped and I didn't enjoyed it as much as everyone seems to do. Additionally, I feel for Levi what everyone appears to feel for Adam.
Read this book if you enjoy contemporary romances, you loved TLH and don't mind to be reading something which is a lot similar.
If you disliked the novellas and are tired of Ally's formulas/ fanfiction do not bother to pick up this book.
