This one hurt A LOT. Literal physical pain that I felt deep in my chest. This was perhaps the toughest, most gut-wrenching book I have ever read. Yoss and Imogen's story is no fairy tale. It's dark and raw and painful and not for everyone. There is a lot of possibly triggering subject matter that is difficult to read. The author does a fantastic job of making sure the reader feels every emotion as the characters experience it. I felt Yoss's shame, and Imi's disgust over their situation. I felt their desperation to survive and Yoss's need to save everyone with little to no regard for himself. It was so overwhelming at times that I had to stop reading. But amongst all of the pain, there were moments of beauty that left me rooting for these two broken characters. Yoss and Imi loved each other so fiercely that it was impossible to not want them to get their fairy tale ending. One Day Soon is one of those books that will definitely leave a mark and won't soon be forgotten.

I also recommend that anyone who reads this keep a tissue box nearby because you will cry sad tears and happy tears and tears of relief and just probably for the entire book.
