Of course this book was super cute and fun to read because it's Morgan Matson and I'll never not love a Morgan Matson book but no one is talking about how this book had a Kidnapping/Belgian Mafia/Undercover CIA subplot that I was not expecting at all and had absolutely nothing to do with the main storyline and I'm still kind of confused by it but I'm still living for it
I read a lot of books where self-discovery, friendship, etc. are the main themes, but I'll say Matson does a better job than most at conveying a relationship like the one between Kat and Stevie. While at times the plot wound up a little predictable, it was a cute, heart-warming story (and who didn't sing along to that cover...just me?). Maybe it was the fact that Matson didn't force romance to the forefront, like so many novels that tout themes of “friendship” do but it just ends up being romance. And that was a very, very big thing I liked about this...it wasn't pushed to be the main thing when it didn't need to be, which only made the friendship all the more fun to read.
I picked up this book on a whim while looking for the evermore vinyl in target and omg im so happy I did
this book read like a DCOM, it was so fun!! I loved every single character and moment in this book, I genuinely cannot think of anything I disliked
of course, it's not perfect. you'll absolutely have to suspend your disbelief a bit, but once you accept that and just let the magic of the story take over, you are in for an wildly fun time.
it really is a touching story about best friends dealing with growing up, parental expectations, and changing friendships together, set in the awe inspiring spectacle of New York City. (not to mention, as a current high school junior heavily involved in theater, I felt INCREDIBLY seen and called out by much of this book)
I think I might have a new favorite and I can't wait to check out more from this author!!
