I have a hard time rating this a 3, but it's not a 2. Maybe 2.5. I appreciate what the author wants to do, but this isn't 200 pages worth of story. It's a fast read, and there's some nice wording; but writing it in verse didn't really work for the story or characters. The narrator Shelby's voice didn't ring true. Occasionally, she'd say something a bit bumpkin-ish, but it was very inconsistent. She's sadly not very engaging. You want more information, more characterization, more anything to make you engage with the characters.
Based on the cover, I expected some lightness, but there really isn't any. The cover art doesn't really fit. The title doesn't work for me either, though it does reference something in the story. Also, Brandt is a twit. Depressive demon nightmare boy.
The vampires seem depressingly hetero.
In all, not a book I regret reading, not at all. But it needs to be filled out more, and maybe not written in verse. It just didn't quite work.
