3.5 stars. I've been searching in vain for a Charlie Cochrane book or series I liked as much as the Cambridge Fellows series (starting with [b:Lessons in Love 5942455 Lessons in Love (Cambridge Fellows, #1) Charlie Cochrane https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1227845463i/5942455.SY75.jpg 6114963]) but none of her characters outside of Jonty and Orlando have strongly appealed to me. But I enjoyed this cozy mystery with Detective Robin Bright and schoolteacher Adam Matthews, who meet over the dead body of a candidate for the headteacher (not headmaster, we're in enlightened times now) position at Adam's school. Robin has bad memories of being bullied at the school, which makes him a little edgy at first, not to mention the fact that he can't get involved with a witness who might be a suspect. I didn't guess the identity of the murderer (I never do actually), but I enjoyed watching the case come together with the exception of a bit of out of character police ineptitude when the culprit is uncovered. I appreciated the fact that Robin takes his job seriously and doesn't go farther than a kiss with Adam before the case is solved but that means there is room for the relationship to develop much more deeply in subsequent books. Jonty and Orlando will always be first in my heart, but there might be room for another Cochrane couple beside them if the rest of the books in the series are this strong.
