The Color Purple is a heartbreaking read. It dives into many sensitive topics so unabashedly that it's startling; but that is exactly what makes the book so good.

If you enjoyed I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, then you must read this.

The only reason this book isn't 5 stars for me is because I struggle with epistolary novels. I've DNF'd a lot of them (Bram Stoker's Dracula, Augustus by John Williams, etc.), but the story and the writing made up for my character flaw here.
