No one recommended this book to me; I just came across it one day, found the synopsis intriguing, and decided to pick it up. This is so rare for me nowadays, but I'm glad I did! If you're even a little bit interested in the apocalypse, cults, or the old ones in Horizon Zero Dawn, you should definitely give this one a try!
Three mega-corporations control the technology market, and their CEOs are prepared for the apocalypse. They're not alone; there's a religious survivalist cult romanticizing the hunter-gatherer lifestyle and prophesying the end of the current civilization as they know it. I was hooked from the very first chapter!
At the start, I didn't have much of an idea of what was going on, but everything came together in the end. The book was very entertaining, and its ideas were so intriguing that I couldn't stop thinking about it even when I wasn't reading. I still think about this book regularly!
However, it wasn't perfect. For one, I found the forum posts in between the chapters quite boring and unnecessarily long for the most part. Also, the arrangement of the posts and their comments made it hard to identify what the comments were referring to and when exactly they should be read. Secondly, I wasn't a huge fan of the end of the book. While it somewhat made sense, it felt a bit far-fetched and messy. But regardless of these things, I really enjoyed the book as a whole and would recommend picking it up!
