The majority of this book was quite enjoyable. The dog was fun, the plot was intriguing and entertaining, and the banter witty and adorable. The events felt fresh and unique even though I've seen some of them plenty of other times, which, I think, speaks well to the author's ability to take tired plot devices and put her own spin on them in order to liven them right back up.
Occasionally, Hollan made a really stupid choice that, had she thought about it for more than two seconds, she wouldn't have made.
I never really understood the bad guys' motivation. It wasn't expressed why they were doing what they had done to the village or a certain person. That could have used a bit more development to help the naughty actions make more sense.
One major thing I didn't like: Committing suicide because you were raped is not to be justified. Suicide is wrong no matter how hurt a person is, no matter what they've been through. I'm not saying rape is an easy thing to go through; far from it! But a person can heal from that trauma, especially if their family is supportive, which this person's was. I don't understand why the author chose to have the lady kill herself... yet the author also spoke of choosing to follow God's path and allow Him to protect you. Conflicting messages were presented, if you ask me.
Overall, this was a very adorable story, and I enjoyed it and had to keep reading to see how everything turned out and what all would surprise me around the next curve and the next in the plot.
