I really enjoyed this book, I loved reading about Lou and Reid and watching the two of the battle with themselves over their feelings. I loved Reid internally debating with himself after finding out Lou's a which yet still realising he loves her.
I personally thought the ending was slightly rushed, but I still really enjoyed reading it and loved that Reid ends up being a witch himself.
I can't wait to get to the sequel soon!
If I thought the first book of this series was boring, it was nothing compared to this one, I thought it was so slow, and it took 60% of the book for them to fully explore the ‘mark of athena'.
The love triangles constantly annoyed me and I thought they were pointless in here. I hated piper in the first book but boy now I hate her more, she's pretty pointless to me in the series, I feel like she's only here for Jason. Speaking of Jason, he constantly got annoying at the fact he was always so insecure about the quest and how he was helping, Percy pretty much just bitched throughout the whole book, Annabeth was constantly jealous at any girl who breathed near Percy. Overall there was no actual character development, which I personally think is needed. The four povs just got annoying and sometimes confusing.
I thought there wasn't a huge amount of action, of course there was the ‘war' between the Greek and Roman camps but that just kept getting brushed over and ignored. The story kept getting sidetracked, to piper and Jason having a new ‘quest' from Hercules to get into the Mediterranean or something, which just ended up being pointless as they left anyway. To the two chapters of Leo, Frank and Hazel being taken by ‘fish-horse guys' (their words).
The cliffhanger at the end was purely there to make you want to read the next book, but it kind of just annoyed me as you can kind of predict what will happen in the next book, I will read the house of hades but I'm not looking forward to it.
Now don't get me wrong, I loved the whole Percy Jackson series and had fun reading it, even though this isn't really part of the same series, it is in the same world and does still include Percy in it, but I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the original series. It took me forever to read, a book that should of taken me a few weeks to read, took me two months because I just had no motivation to pick it up and carry on reading. Now it does have its fair share of action but honestly I can't remember much from the book.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, however since I didn't actually like when I read the Great Gatsby, I knew that there would be a chance I wouldn't enjoy this, I wanted to read it to see if I would like a retelling of it.
I felt like there was no plot or much character development in the first part of this book, which is where I got up to, there may have been some later on, but honestly I didn't have the patience to find out. It was difficult for me to orient myself in the setting of the book and I found myself bored at the lack of action, felt like there was a lot of feelings with the characters that was repeated throughout almost every chapter.

This was one of most anticipated releases of the year and I was so excited to read it, I managed to buy it the day after it was released, then put it on my February TBR and started it at the start of the month.
I loved the first few chapters, I loved the story we got and how much was in these chapters, however, as I got further into the book, it just started to become boring to me. I found that the plot seemed rushed and there wasn't much in it, a lot of the chapters were clearly fillers, with something big happening only for it to be solved in the next chapter.
I didn't really like the relationship between Liwei and Xingyin, I thought they had no chemistry and wouldn't say that it had any “passion” as said in the summary.
I thought the love triangle was also unnecessary, whilst I like the relationship between Wenzhi and Xingyin a lot more, I still don't find their relationship enough to keep reading this book.
The only reason that this book has more than one star is because I love the worldbuilding and the actual style of writing.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed with this book, I may come back to it after a long break, but it may just stay as a dnf.
