The banter was great! I loved the characters! However, the book overall fell short. Nothing was resolved at the end. There were plenty of pages of filler that could have been cut. I know this is book one of a duology but it was unsatisfying on its own and I'm not sure that it left me wanting to invest reading another book for its conclusion.
I'm mad at myself for leaving this on my TBR for a year! I love second-chance romance and this delivered!!!! So good!
Also, I found Georgia soooo relatable as a FMC - there was a specific line I highlighted because yup that is exactly me and I never knew how to say it:
“I tend to be a mirror anyway; whatever time someone has to give me is what I give back in an attempt to be unobtrusive.”
For me, this book was perfect for Delphine and for Tyler. I loved getting to know both of them more, especially Delphine. She went through so much and her story hit so hard. She might be one of my favorite FMCs of all time. Tyler, damn, the man he is! We always knew he was a good one, I just never imagined he could be THIS good.
I can't wait for the next book. I never want to leave Triple Falls. I hope Kate has a million more books to write because I'll never want to be done with the Ravenhood.
I fear this book succumbed to the same fate as SYRM. The family conflict/drama overwhelmed the story and pushed the romance to the back of the stage.
Based on the first chapter, I was expecting so much more romance, but then got nothing for 250+ pages. We were spending so much time repeating plot points: the fate of the venue, mom's health, best friend & brother's relationship status, the ex-boyfriend who is here for some reason; and so very little time on the romance. Yes, the mental connection was still there in almost every chapter but only rarely was it romantic. Most of the time it was just boring.
When the characters finally get together, it felt like it came out of nowhere. Yes, for the MMC it was obvious he was already feeling it, but I just didn't believe it with our FMC. It felt random for her and actually out of character. She was mostly miserable the entire time.
They got together, completed the assignment to get rid of their connection, and then had basically a relationship ending fight, then got back together and summary where are they now end chapter with less than 100 pages left in the book. This was the whole point of the book and it didn't start until 250 pages in and then was wrapped up so quickly.
I wish I had loved this. Ashley Poston is one of my favorites, but this was boring and frustrating.
I don't know how to adequately express how much I love this book. This book encapsulates why the second chance romance trope/genre is one of my favorites (probably number one favorite). I love these people who know each other and love each other rediscover that love and face the fears and issues that tore them apart in the first place.
