The audio book was a quick and easy listen, the author narrates the book and I found her interesting and engaging. There were a lot of different types of options given for you to try yourself to help change and some tips but I was hoping for more thorough practical steps I could apply. Like one option was to make your new good habits flexible so that you can adapt to a change in schedule but there was no explanation given on how to build a flexible habit. I would recommend this book as a good starting point but you're going to need to use other resources to actually offer guidance for you to make the changes happen.
A solid and lovely read. The writing is great, I can only dream to write half as good as this this. I loved all of the characters, August, Jane, August's roommates, coworkers, and her neighbor (her found family). And I loved the story, its such a fun and wild premise. This was funny, dramatic, and romantic. I didn't give it a full 5 stars because there were many points where I felt the book was going on for too long, some parts I skimmed because it didn't interest me but that's just a “it's me not you thing”. Casey McQuinston is a good writer and story teller, I hope this book becomes a graphic novel, it just feels like it would be beautiful to look in a visual medium.
My dudes i read this book in one go. I had to know how it was going to go for Ollie and her classmates so I sacrificed a good night's sleep. I knew from The Bird and The Nightingale that Katherine Arden could write spooky and tense scenes and she delivered with this one. I will be reading the next book for sure.
A much needed addition to the genre
This first installment in the trilogy had Great character design, an Interesting magic system, and A simple but good plot. I think the target audience will enjoy this book and its a much need addition to a genre that often holds out dated views on what gender is allowed to do what.
This was an excellent read. I love books about people challenging themselves in the wild and this one offered insight not only into what its like to travel from Washington state to the Arctic with no motor but because the author is a Biologist she offered a lot of interesting information on birds and other wildlife as well as how they and their environment are being impacted by climate change. I loved seeing these remote parts of the world I most likely will never see.
I love Alyssa Cole's writing, every time I start before I know it I'm already 30% into the book. Her characters are fun and relatable the one in this series are usually dorks (at least the ladies are and I am here for it). This is what those cheesy Hallmark royal Christmas romances want to be minus the Christmas. And I just realized that I read the series in reverse order but with romances that doesn't matter as they can all standalone.
I did not love this one nearly as much as Gideon the Ninth. The first book is in my top books I read this year and this book gave me such a headache. I'll admit it was what the author intended and I believe she executed the book how she wanted to but I did not like it. And normally when something isn't for me but is still well done I'll give it a 4 but I was so confused through the majority of the book that I was seriously considering skimming to the end. It wasn't until 72% when I got an explanation and things were clear and happening that I enjoyed the book. I think the mystery should have been revealed a lot sooner and this book should have been shorter. That being said I will be reading the final book Alecto the Ninth because the last 28% was good.
