So, I'm not sure it's such a big deal that the author has figured out that or DNA spells out God's name... I think all of his other messages in this book are what's important. It's important to care about the future of human existence, and to start thinking ahead, if we want human kind to realize its full potential. I believe one of the most powerful points he made was that if humans are going to live for many more generations to come, our best strategy is cooperation, not competition. Thought provoking book!
I loved this book. Although this book and the other Susanna Kearsley book I read, “The Winter Sea” both take some time to get into, I really enjoy the history and believable romance that was present in both books. This book, The Rose Garden was one I ended up having to stay up late to read, because I had to know how everything turned out! I'm definitely checking out Susanna's other books!
This is such a neat book that goes through one complete year on a farm, mentioning each month and season, and what's going on during those times on a farm. What's noteworthy about this book is the little-known details about farm life included in this book. I found them mentioning things about real farm life that other cutesy little farm books never recognize, like the chickens laying fewer eggs in the winter, and having to give animals medicine.
Living in the country with a few animals, my son could relate to all of these little details. We really enjoyed reading this book together.
So, from what I gather, this book was written after the screenplay? I might have misunderstood. But anyhow, because of that I didn't have very high expectations for this book. It turns out that is was actually pretty good! Right along with the other characters in the story, I had no idea who the wolf was, and was suspicious of everyone! Usually I can figure things out enough to have some kind of hint at what is coming, but when I read the final/bonus chapter online and the wolf was revealed, I have to admit, I didn't see it coming.
That kind of makes me mad, because I should have figured it out. But I didn't. :-)
I suppose now I should go get the movie and watch it!
What an awesome adventure story, mostly because it's true!!! And I live in Oklahoma! I've seen old (super old) video of these boys' dad, Jack Abernathy catching wolves with his bare hands with Teddy Roosevelt. That was awesome. But then to find out that his boys, at just ages 5 and 9 traveled by themselves on horseback all over the USA, that is just amazing.
It definitely brings up the question of whether we coddle our children a little too much, and don't give kids enough credit for what they are capable of if we would just give them the room to do so.
This is such an easy read, only 162 pages. You should read it!
