This book took me a while to get into. Some of the wording, especially the conversations at the beginning felt off and kind of static. Why was Laura so cold towards Reggie? (You kind of find out near the end.) Why did Laura seem so pretentious? (Is it her career?) As I got into the book though I found myself wanting to know what happened next. Given the chance I would definitely read the next book in the series.
My 16 year old had thus book assigned for English class this year. As it was one I had never read I knew I had to read it too. Wow! So glad I did. It's an amazing snapshot of the South in the 1960s. My only wish was that things were fleshed out more. In some ways it feels more like a proof that was sent in to be accepted for print. I did not enjoy the use of one of the words, but it fit the time and the place so I couldn't get too upset about it. I highly recommend this book to people.
This book was an eye opener for me. I will admit I never really realized the struggles the refuges faced after World War 2.
I feel the struggles that Georg and Edith (along with their friends) deal with could be changed to any minority in history and still be true. This book is one I will recommend to people quite a bit.
This one took a little bit to get into, but like every other Rick Riordan book I've read I couldn't stop reading it.
It's a great installment of the Greek/Roman stories. I am just saddened by the losses in the book. There's always a few in the books, but the ones in this one hit me hard. Hoping the one isn't permanent, though I know better. Looking forward to the next installment.
I have to say this rating is a low 3 stars. I enjoyed parts of the book, but not enough to rate the book higher. I found fault with the characters, some weren't fleshed out enough and other were just too overboard. The same with the story.
I enjoyed reading the recipes at the back of the book, and may try one or two in the future.
This book is a non-fiction book that doesn't necessarily read as one. You will find yourself caught up in the story of their lives. You will feel emotions you may not normally feel while reading. It is one that needs to be read by more people so this doesn't happen again.
These women suffered due to a combination of greed and ignorance. I honestly don't know which is worse infraction. I want to say thank you to them for fighting for what was right and owed to you.
