Savage Fae by Caroline Peckham was an absolute delight to read—I loved it! It had me laughing and giggling more times than I can count. The characters are what truly shine, each with their distinct personalities that keep the story engaging.
Gabriel, who annoyed me to no end in the first book, redeemed himself a little this time. He's less frustrating, though I'm still waiting for him to prove his worth, especially in helping Elise uncover her brother's murderer. Leon is hands down my favorite—his humor and lightheartedness make him stand out. Dante is another highlight, balancing his tender side with Elise and his Alpha persona when the situation demands it. Ryder, on the other hand, remains too consumed by his pain for me to fully connect with him. Despite their flaws and challenges, I love how all the boys genuinely care for Elise—it adds depth to their dynamic.
The gang war dynamic is one of my favorite aspects of this book. Felix, though, is irredeemable—I'm rooting for his slow, agonizing downfall. The mysteries surrounding Elise also kept me hooked. Her kidnapping raises so many questions—who's behind it, and why? And let's talk about Nightshade—she's shady as hell, and I have this strong feeling he might be tied to Lionel Acrux. Elise, though, could use a little more focus; her lack of progress in solving her brother's murder is frustrating.
I'm also dying to see how the deal between Dante and Ryder plays out—there's so much tension there. And, of course, I can't wait to dive into Book 3 and catch more glimpses of Orion and Zodiac Academy.
If you're into humor, intrigue, and a dash of chaos, this series keeps delivering. Bring on the next book!
I feel a little bit more confident of how to invest. It's purely based on strategy and general concepts. Don't expect to be opening up a portfolio and knowing how to analyse, choose and invest. BUT if you feel like there is a barrier that stops you from investing definitely read this book!!! It'll help you understand the vocabulary and the concepts of investing.
TRIGGER WARNING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MENTIONED :
- Abuse and non consensual acts
Update : I rated this 3.5 ⭐ but after reading book 2, this is definitely a 4 ⭐
3.5 ⭐ I don't know what to feel about this book. This is my first fantasy and first bully romance book. I read #0.5 rated it a 5 ⭐. I was so excited to start my fantasy era. BUT I didn't know it was a bully romance. AND it was over the line : abuse and bullying in any form and attempted murder, just so that the Heirs would show the lost twin Heirs who is the boss. Every time the Heirs would show up I am frightened for the twins dear lives. I fucking hate the Heirs so much. After reading #0.5, I was rooting for Darius. I wanted to see him progress and overpower his dad. But fuck you Darius. I can't wait for the twins to rule Solaria and make these assholes-wanna-be-rulers-of-the-throne-of-Solaria suffer.
3.5 ⭐
First and second chapter were such a roller coaster of emotions. I hated Jenny Han for making me feel happy and then heart broken just like that. I was so naive to think that Susannah was still alive. This book was meh and not as good as the first one. Can we talk about Belly and Conrad ? I don't know who was the most childish ! Belly acted like 14, a crybaby and Conrad like a 17 year old. Even Jeremiah acted like the oldest and most responsible, to the point I couldn't even imagine him their age. The only thing I liked about this book is the summer house. It's dreamy and it's giving hope. But I get it. Beck died and nothing was ever the same. The characters were lost and the summer house was the only thing that kept them together.
Quick read. Great for young adults. If you're looking for something deep and meaningful, this is not for you. If you want to read a fun, young romance just to pass time, this is it.
I started this book not knowing what it was. I was just looking for a quick read to pass time. Didn't disappoint, read it in one day.
I went through a whole roller coaster of emotions: happiness, sadness, love, surprise, amusement, anger, excitement, anxiety, and disappointment. This book had me on my toes until the last chapters when they tried to connect the dots and figure out what is happening to them. The ending seemed somehow rushed or the authors didn't know how to finish it.
I do like the message of the book which is, according to me, you can't change the past but you can change the future. Charlie and Silas discover how badly they treated others by reading letters that they wrote to themselves and they don't appreciate it nor can't believe how awful they had been to friends and family. Since they lost their memories and don't know how to bring them back, the only thing they can do is start fresh, make new memories and do better.
Overall I had fun reading this book and I loved Silas. He was sweet, caring, thoughtful and funny. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for an easy and fun read. It's definitely a fun romance/I-hate-everyone-in-the-world-but-you/light-suspense/fake-dating trope.
I've read The Song of Achilles and it is my favourite book. Circe is now my second favourite book. Thank you Madeline for opening my mind to greek mythology. I recently bought classic books to learn more about it. I didn't know I was in for a treat meeting other divinities, Gods, mortals in this book : Achilles, Helios, Ares, Athena, Odysseus. I want to learn more about them !
Reading the synopsis, I thought to myself “She will be a badass female character Goddess and witch”. She gets there at the end, don't worry. But I want to talk about the suffering, the loss, the pain and the anger I felt with her throughout her stories. She was considered an odd one, a useless, powerless and ugly daughter of Helios to the point where she would doubt herself and everyone who came to her island. But that's what made her different. She wasn't like any other God. In fact she was better than them. All that she went through made her who she is. If she hadn't been through all that situation, she would be just one of the Gods and we wouldn't be reading her story today.
I didn't like the fact that she slept with men who had wives and a family. Not really a badass character type. She could've slept with other men equally noble/powerful/famous and most importantly single. At some point, it felt like she'd given up on life. Since she could never leave the island. Who cares if he has a wife ? She'll never meet them ? They might not even hear of her ? And if they do, what will be worse than exile ? Death ? She didn't have Telegonus yet and I felt that death wouldn't have bothered her. Also, she wouldn't have ever got stronger if she didn't have a son. Her strength grew thanks to her love for her son. She protected him with all she had. She feared the death of her son.
The story is dark to the point, you feel her pain, sorrow and sadness. How everyone was rude and mean to her. But despite all of that, she came through. I wanted her to succeed and show everyone what she is made of. I wanted her to find her peace, love and to love herself. She may be different but at least she wasn't one of those Gods saying “kneel before me” or “I am a Goddess, shut up and listen”. She had a heart, she was considerate and she was kind.
Circe, thank you. It was quite an adventure.
It's scary to think that Orwell wrote this on 1945 and it still reflects our society. As usual, the poor works hard and never get rich but makes the wealthy richer.
Boxer is my favorite character who questionned everything everytime they were given news and speeches which were manipulated. The book is a powerful commentary of manipulation of information, abuse of power and corruption , social inequalities and loss of individual rights.
I was excited once I had a copy of this book since I've heard it a lot of people enjoying this romance. After flipping through a few couple of chapters, it confirmed that I am not a Jane Austen girl.
Throughout the story, all that ever happened were parties, going to one place from another to attend to more parties and forbidden loves. I found it tremendously stretch to describe a couple of dinners and courtships. Although, I loved the character of Elizabeth who always spoke her mind which would have been difficult at the time since women must act as ladies. Even though she was strong-headed, she was sincere and spoke her heart.
I would recommend this book if you are interested in the 1800's and how they socialised themselves. Otherwise, you might find it long and boring. Atleast, I can say I've read this book!
1984 is a dystopian novel in which a country undergo a totalitarian system. Every action is controlled by the Thought Police, Telescreen or even your children who will not hold back to betray you to the authorities. Individualism is a crime to an extent that even language is modified in ways you cannot express yourself.
There is no real truth. The truth is what the state says it is. Back is white, 2+2=5, if the state says so. The past is controlled in ways to strengthen the ruler. Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past. Revising and rewriting the past to make certain that Big Brother and the Party are always correct has effectively eliminated historical accuracy. How can one think and reason in a society where everything is a fabrication? I've questioned why the title is called ‘1984' but Orwell cleverly constructed a world in which the citizens do not know what year they are living in. When it could have been easily 1981 but since history is modified they couldn't tell. This makes the title more powerful. Something as simple as the year is unknown to the people since they don't have the right to keep track. Knowledge is
powerful but according to Big Brother, Ignorance is strength.
The first slogan “War is peace” describes that in order to keep peace and society's order, the three states : Oceania (British Isles, the Americas, Pacific and Australia) , Eurasia (Europe and Asia) and Eastasia (The rest of it) must be in continuous warfare. “Si vis pacem para vellum”
The second slogan “Freedom is slavery” means you must lose yourself to be free. This way you'll be integrated within the Party and thus making you indestructible.
Ignorance is strength. The state maintains its structure by torture, intimidation, violence and brainwashing. The low class in society is too stupid to revolt. The high class make and uphold the law. The middle class arises wanting to be the high.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I laughed, I giggled, I felt sad and heart broken. I just couldn't put down the book. Though, I was annoyed so many times.
The heroine :
I was really annoyed by the heroine.
The author tried to portray her as ‘I'm not like the other girls' but it was just I'm a toxic girl. The ‘I'm not like the other girls' doesn't have to be a mean, toxic person. She could have been a sweet girl, who preferred reading than going out, who knows what she wants, who doesn't follow the society, etc. But instead she was toxic, selfish, stubborn, and mean. I hated how so secretive she was, when she had plenty opportunity to tell him the truth about her infertility. And surely, as Josh was so madly in love with her, he would understand and they would have found a solution. But she was so stubborn and selfish thinking only about herself.
The message :
The author had to explain the message. For me, the message wasn't there if she had to explain. Even from the last pages, she still didn't know her worth was. And miraculously got pregnant. I have no experience or whatsoever with this yet (and hopefully not) but I wonder how painful this could be for couples or a women having this problem. Though Josh gave some solutions to her, I was hoping it was one of them but not being pregnant.
Josh :
Josh is perfect. I wish he just saw right through Kristen and moved on than being tortured by her. I felt so bad for him, I just wanted to give him so much love.
Objectifying :
Really ? The sexy yoga instructor ? And more. I think I don't have to go through this. But yeah, this is sad and disgusting in my opinion.
Anyway, if you're not so sensitive about the infertility, this book is a nice read with all the humour and love and emotion. But it's not for you, if you're going through this situation.
I read 7 chapters until I abandoned it. I keep flipping pages and nothing really happens. The story is slow and the characters are one-dimensional.
