I got caught up in the hype of Inkshares and bought this book after listening to an interview with [a:Gary Whitta 355173 Gary Whitta https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1345654749p2/355173.jpg] on The Sword and Laser podcast. It was a good book, but seemed to miss the mark on hitting that sweet spot that makes you stay up late to see what happens next.
This one is tough to rate for me. I really like the concept and story. The history/fantasy work. The problem I had was there was no meat on the bone. It felt like a screenplay. I would have preferred more detail, backstory, anything. What was there was great it was just not enough. The concept needed more. It almost seemed like a novelette or side story to a bigger world. The whole first part of the book could have been a full long book on its own with the second part a side story.
