A sweet read without a big drama or angst. It doesn't make the story any less recomendable or enjoyable in my opinion, because almost too many stories I read have either a huge and dramatical outing scene or a crisis in the relationship at the end of the book where the main character just wants to curls up in his bed and wait for armageddon.
In the first few chapters it really annoyed my how Jake was all ‘I have to act real stupid and uneducated, can't let people see that I read a book because I teach sports'.
Luckily, that stopped and while that is an issue that may be partly true, I found it annoying here and it felt exaggerated and didn't really fit Jake's character.
Long live baseball trousers, especially when they are nice and tight fitting!
The romance between Jake and Brandon developed slow, but the wait and the sexual tension and damnit, just kiss each other along the way will be worth it.
The constant shifting of the POV took getting used to in the beginning and more than once I found myself asking ‘wait,,whose view is this again?', but soon enough I came to really enjoy that particular style, to be able to see both Jake's and Brandon's reactions and thoughts to something.
Really enjoyed the first half of the story. The characters are incredibly charming and the attraction feels genuine and realistic. It is a slow burn to when they finally get together and I was looking forward to them tackling the mountain of problems that their relationship would face, both having a fairly traumatic past that still affects them in the present, the fact they both teach/coach at the same high school, how and where they would build a life together, etc.
Unfortunately once they do finally get together, the narrative focuses more on the sex than anything else. Months fly by in an instant and you are left filling in the blanks. So much of the depth introduced in the beginning is never addressed again, or addressed insufficiently. It felt like the authors were in a rush to finish the story. All in all it is an enjoyable read, but it had way more potential.
