The good news is I read a BUNCH of these as kid and still grew up to be a feminist.
The bad news is basically everything else??

I wish I could recapture my obsession for these books! I was barely a teen when I read them and now that I'm older I still enjoyed it, but I thought ‘How are these 16 year old kids?!'. I mean, it worked when I was younger and thought this must be what high school is like, but now I wonder how many high schools have sororities and fraternities. Craziness. And I forgot about the amazing “on the next episode of Sweet Valley High” blurb they would put at the end of the book to get you to read the next one!
I was definitely not expecting a fast-paced story involving underage drinking, attempted acquaintance rape, drunk driving, and an evil twin willing to tell horrific lies to get her way...but that's what this book is. This was a wild ride.
I liked the third-person-omniscient narration, and the storytelling was clear and well-done. It's easy to see why books in this series made the NYT bestseller list.
