Sometimes writing a really good book within a franchise can lead to the next one being a downer. Make no mistake, Extinction machine is still pretty good but not in the class of Assassins Code. Most of the hallmarks of past books exist and its still not boring despite being formulaic. If anything, this books lacks the substantiation of the previous ones. The plot is really thin and the assumptions too over the top. Science fiction needs to be grounded in reality and this is where the cup misses the lip. Still a pretty good read and I will watch where Jonathan goes next.
