really cool book about a tween girl's Raina anxiety issues and senstitive stomach. I related to her to some extent and I really loved the idea and the art style. Raina Telgemeier is a really good author!!!
I read this with my kids (two boys, 7 and 9). I could tell initially they were not too jazzed about reading a book about a girl and periods and “emotional stuff.” But I would not let them bail out of it and it prompted so many excellent conversations about therapy, puberty (coming faster than I am ready for), anxiety, and friendships.
They really got a lot out of this book and after we finished My older son asked me if the breathing exercises Raina talked about actually worked. I assured them they did and he said, “Wow, I'm going to have to remember that for when I am scared or worried.”
Asked them what book they wanted to read next and my younger son flipped the book to the backside and said, “Let's read Ghosts, Raina wrote that one too!”
From my kids that is a ringing endorsement.
Really sweet and relateable for someone with anxiety and a sensitive stomach but also lots to love for all kids/tweens.
