It all begins with a strange coin on a sun-warmed sidewalk.
Jane finds the coin, and because she and her siblings are having the worst, most dreadfully boring summer ever, she idly wishes something exciting would happen.
And something *does*: Her wish is granted.
Or not quite. Only half her wish comes true.
It turns out the coin grants wishes—but only by half, so that you must wish for *twice* as much as you want.
Wishing for two times something is a cinch, but other doubled wishes only cause twice as much trouble. What is half of twice a talking cat? Or to be half-again twice not-here? And how do you double your most heartfelt wish, the one you care about so much it must be perfect?

An excellent adventure story that teaches kids the importance of thinking before you speak, and what having your heart's desire means for everyone, not just yourself!
Four siblings find a coin, and they come to realize that the coin is a magic coin. But it is not your usual magic coin—it only does half of what is asked of it. This has some unexpected and funny consequences. What you wish for—well, let's just say that you might want to think carefully before you pick up a magical coin and make a wish.
I remember the joy I had when I read this book when I was a kid. I remember the delight I felt when I discovered that the author had written other magical books. I read the whole series back in the early 1960s. It remains my favorite series of all time.
I have to say that how ever charming a guy is, I wouldn't marry him after having met him three times. But Dharma and Gregg got happy, so...
I just found out that Edward Eager died of lung cancer at the age of 53.
When I was a child I read a book from the library. I sat and read in my room from cover to cover and when I got to the end I distinctly remember feeling as if I had just woken up from a dream. I was so engrossed in the story I felt like I had been with the children on their adventures and I was so sad it was over.
But it wasn't. It was only the beginning. I spent the rest of my life like a drug addict searching for that same great high and it has been the best adventure ever. All thanks to Edward Eager and his amazing book.
