While deckhanding on board a salmon tender, Kate Shugak hauls up the body of a widely disliked fisherman whose apparent murder is greeted with great rejoicing. Drafted by State Trooper Jim Chopin to assist in the investigation, Kate draws up a long list of suspects. Meanwhile, Kate's Aleut aunties are mixed up in some shady dealings of their own, which Kate must prove do not include murder.

Another good story in the Kate Shugak series.
In this one Kate is confronted by a murder where seemingly everyone she can think of has a motive. Painstaking detective work is required – in which she is aided by Chopper Jim, her main squeeze Jack, and her indominable Aunties.
And as usual, Dana Stabenow expanded my knowledge about Alaska – in this case, about salmon fishing.
Solid 4 stars.
