Krakto: Champion of the World

A creation type myth where Ka, the great bird of all birds and his evil brother Antika fight using champions from the bird world. Ka, chooses Krakto the kea, Antika chooses Moadeath the great eagle. Krakto uses his quick maneuverability to wear out the giant bird of prey, who eventually collapses.

While aimed at primary school children, the book is not overly simple, so it would want to be older primary kids trying to manage this. My 6 year old daughter didn't quite connect all the parts of this story.

Great dark imagery from Chris Gaskin the illustrator - similar in style to the cover illustration.
