Set in Colorado in the 1980s, this work tells the story of various Holt residents. There's teenager Victoria Roubideaux, pregnant and homeless, taken in by two ageing, shy and somewhat taciturn cattle-farming brothers and the changes wrought in all their lives as a result.

Delícia de livro da coleção da Rádio Londres, leitura de uma sentada com os vários dramas de uma cidade pequena e seus grandes dramas de toda uma humanidade...
The characters are so alive and human, but their stories seemed sad to me. Or maybe it just seemed that way because their lives were hard. I liked the way the story unfolded - we could have come into and out of their lives at any point - no real beginning or ending. We just happened to witness this particular slice of it. I enjoyed the book very much.
