Brigham Vaughn tackles perception in Push & Pull. Vaughn has their characters face how they perceive themselves and others. In the first book of “The Midwest Series” Brent came out of the closet. Now Brent has to learn what it means to be “out of the closet”. As someone who has never lived outside of the closet, everything that he can now allow himself to do in public and semi-public is different. How he perceives himself is different.
Then there is how Brent views other people in the LGBTQ+ community. Vaughn tackles this issue on multiple fronts and does not shy away from the awkward conversations this can produce. Lowell is upfront and flamboyant with his homosexuality which makes Brent and Lowell's family uncomfortable. This is Lowell's self-defense to other's reaction to his homosexuality. Perception.
These perceptions and their defenses to them has stopped them from getting close to people and here is your love story. Vaughn once again let's Lowell fly with some of the funniest quips. Both characters are prickly and run hot and cold. Hence this title is perfect for their story.
Vaughn brings the perfect mix of humor, heat, and freedom to Push & Pull. A great way to end the month of Pride.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
