Another guilty-pleasure Victorian novel. Very low on romance in this one, though the various ladies rack up an impressive collective total of no less than seventeen fainting spells, not to mention the times they get otherwise knocked unconscious! (Such as near drowning, x3) I loved how Bess is feminine and yet super plucky...she can cry and dance with the best of them but ultimately she is the one who saves the day, with scant help from any man (though the heroes don't intentionally leave her in the lurch).
I throughly enjoyed it, even the paragraph-length sentences!
