I was really hooked during the first half of the book. It is mysterious and it is clear it is going to be heavy on world building, which is great! Overall it brings interesting characters, like Rhapsody, Achmed and Gruntor (the inseparable adventurer's trio). Rhapsody is a strong heroine with multiple capabilities (ex prostitute/singer/namer/healer/fighter), but her perfection was a bit annoying to me as the story progressed.
During the last half of the book there is a LOT going on and I was bombarded with lore and ancient history. The excess of past history and explanations about the formation of the civilizations made the reading tiring for me. I took way longer than I had anticipated to finish this book.
Although I read this a while back now I remember the first book of the series really grabbed my attention and I enjoyed the different perspective of this land. I enjoyed the by-play between the characters and even laughed out loud at some parts.
