From #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews comes an enthralling new trilogy set in the Hidden Legacy world, where magic means power, and family bloodlines are the new currency of society… In a world where magic is the key to power and wealth, Catalina Baylor is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, and the Head of her House. Catalina has always been afraid to use her unique powers, but when her friend’s mother and sister are murdered, Catalina risks her reputation and safety to unravel the mystery. But behind the scenes powerful forces are at work, and one of them is Alessandro Sagredo, the Italian Prime who was once Catalina’s teenage crush. Dangerous and unpredictable, Alessandro’s true motives are unclear, but he’s drawn to Catalina like a moth to a flame. To help her friend, Catalina must test the limits of her extraordinary powers, but doing so may cost her both her House–and her heart.

Like the naming convention. Showing its different but part of the same series. Burn/Fire related for Nevada and Jewel for CatalinaCAWPILECharactersCatalina's character growth. Partially explained in Diamond fire. Lots of growth. Skilled in her power usage. Lots of practice keeping it containedThe villains were both compelling and reasonable. No mustache twirling. Reasonable goals and drives. Alessandro—I‘m glad that Alessandro is back. I knew he would be but sometimes it's a trick. I do enjoy his descriptions of his “personas” Assassin. Anti-magic which makes sense. “copy summon” items according to what he thinks about. Runa Etterson—felt much more competent in Diamond Fire, but that was dealing with poison and not House stuff right after her family was killedAtmosphereVery immersive, great settings. The places we visit feel familiar and you can imagine what they look like. The emotion is a very palpable thing in scenesWritingEasy to follow. Nothing in the writing that pushed me away from the story. Trope of I love you, so you have to stay away, but done in a convincing way from both major characters. The snark and the Conversations are always on point.PlotSimilar plot to the previous books. An investigation brings them into bigger conflict. This time dealing with Assassin's and the Osiris Serum. Becoming Wardens of the State of Texas. Diatheke is creating Warped users who can use magic, which enhances their ability and is killing people. Kills Head of house Etterson, kidnaps but Daughter. House Baylor gets involved and investigates. Alessandro gets involved because he's contracted to kill Killer of House EttersonInvestmentI really enjoy the Authors stories so when I get invested, which was about 2 chapters for this book, I have a hard time putting it down. Very interested in the Osiris serum stuff and of course the relationship between Catalina and AlessandroLogicSiren Magic doesn't affect those who truly love her. While it appeared that something was off with the magic system(mutations using magic) it was explained in an incredibly believable way for this series. A good amount of worldbuilding without going too into it. EnjoymentLoved the book. Sad I don't get to see more Nevada but now I'm getting invested in CatalinaMiscThe mind-Ripper Benedict Cheer up, We're about to embark on a killing spree with massive property damageScary how much you pull off Social Media, but totally real.Duncan Linus—Tech builder. Very very scary and powerfulAbarca and Heart—difference in protection. Great way to “save” Nevada. Stop her from contributing financially to stop her from overworkingRelationship drama between Catalina and AlessandroAlessandro and his “goals” what are they. He's an assassinMoody—It feels like the love of your life died.Sgt. Teddy is back!Good Epilogue
I will be talking about it on Libromancy https://libromancy.podbean.com/
Time jumps always leave me feeling like I missed out on something, and this is no exception, but I still really enjoyed it.
It's nothing groundbreaking or new compared to the other books, but it's still a good time.
