Something really strange is happening in the City by the Bay. People are dying, but their souls are not being collected. Someone, or something, is stealing them and no one knows where they are going, or why, but it has something to do with that big orange bridge. Death Merchant Charlie Asher is just as flummoxed as everyone else. He's trapped in the body of a fourteen-inch-tall "meat puppet" waiting for his Buddhist nun girlfriend, Audrey, to find him a suitable new body to play host.

Can't quite put my finger on it but I didn't like this one as much as the first. Maybe there wasn't so much of the word play that I find humorous, and more emphasis on forms of humor I don't find funny?
I listened to the audiobook version and it absolutely cracked me up.
Even having not read the first book in the duology didn't reduce my enjoyment of this book. I found all the characters to be well rounded if cooky and a little damaged.
The soul collectors have not been replaced and people's soul vessels are not being collected. But they are being stolen. The supernatural world is out of balance and something has got to give.
A great adult read with all the mythology of a Percy Jackson novel and wang jokes of a frat house movie.
