An absolutely stunning debut from Natasha Siegel. I couldn't put it down! Siegel's prose is delightful and often made me “ooooh that's good” out-loud. I enjoyed the character journeys of not only Phillip and Richard but Isabella as well. Her relationship with Phillip was one of my favorite parts of the book, with how much they loved and supported each other in their own ways. I probably have their every interactions dogearred tbh.
I will definitely read anything else Siegel publishes, no hesitation!
What an exciting read! I love a good historical fiction and Solomon's Crown is a good historical fiction!
I was reminded of The Song of Achilles many times while reading this. I would not say they are comparable, but it sent little reminders.
I love a good bending of history too. It was refreshing to say the least. My biggest concern was the pacing. There were times I felt like the story had unnecessary passages and I think overall it made it feel longer than necessary. I found the ending to be cute, but again because of the pacing it felt almost incomplete.
Anywho, thank you to NetGalley, Natasha Siegel, Random House Publishing, and Megan Whalen for bringing my attention to this debut and allowing me the opportunity to read an eARC for my honest review!
Solomon's Crown by Natasha Siegel releases today, March 14, 2023!
this was a very bittersweet read.
there is a plot but it somewhat falls by the wayside once the romance comes in; richard and philip are very much the focus of the book even as the plot trucks away in the background. i expected this to have a horribly sad ending, but without spoiling anything im glad that's not the route the author decided to take.
i did enjoy the romance most of all; the letters especially. i love me some good love letters and the yearning was fantastic.
this was a fairly good read, but i dont think i'll reread it.
