Let me start this off by saying that a few of my GR friends have read this book & absolutely loved it. Which is perfectly fine, we all have our own tastes and opinions. I on the other hand hated this book. Be warned, I will probably seem a bit harsh in this review. This will not be a spoiler free post, so please if you haven't read it...DON'T CONTINUE.
This story was just a hot fucking mess, so let me just get it out of the way and say fuck this book.
This book had the two things that I hate the most.
1) The death of an important/main character.
2) Cheating/Love triangle
Death is such a tricky thing to write. I can absolutely love a book even with the death of a major character, but the story has to be written extremely well.
Look, I tried to like this book but I just couldn't because it's so damn immature and unrealistic. Maybe if my 15 year old self read it, she would have loved it? Idk, she was even more finicky about characters dying. But, even if Chase wouldn't have died, this still would've only been a 3-star read for me & the ONLY reason that it got even 2 stars was because I truly did like both Chase & Brandon.
Anywho, I just wanna forget this damn thing and move on to bigger and better things. So, here's the list of the biggest issues that I had with this book:
1. Harper. I couldn't stand her, she was such a disappointing main character. I can buy into the whole ‘loving 2 different men at once' spiel, but the bitch seriously needed to grow a pair & break up with Brandon before she fucked Chase. Brandon was WAYYYYYY too good for her and she honestly didn't deserve either one of them. You know who she deserved? The kid with the blow-up doll.
2. Chase's family just automatically accepting her as their own and her calling them Mom & Dad? Cringe.
3. Everyone LITERALLY being okay with her cheating on Brandon. Even Brandon's own damn family?! Bullshit.
4. Harper having the audacity to get so fucking upset at Chase when she thought he cheated on her with Trish. This bitch had NO right whatsoever to judge him after what she had done to Brandon. Trish might have done the deed, but Harper is the reason Chase died. #Sorrynotsorry
5. Harper getting back into a relationship with Brandon so soon after Chase's death AND Chase's own damn family pushing her into it! Like, what?! “It's what Chase would have wanted” No the fuck it wasn't. How quickly she just jumped back into it with Brandon really discredited her and Chase's relationship.
6. Carter. Why? The book would have been exactly the same without him. Harper just needed all of these guys fawning over her all the time. UGH.
I could literally write a novella on the issues that I had with this book, but I'll just sum it up here. This was just a cheesefest. The ending was just way too happy, it was worse than a fucking Hallmark movie. I feel that the author wasn't mature or equipped enough to handle writing about death or even loving two men at once. This was the first time & the last time I will be reading anything from this author.
