Thrilling from beginning to end! Hazel is my kind of D.I. - tough, lively, wearied and witty. She reminds me of Jane Tennyson (and I've kind of gotten my Prime Suspect fix from the book), and though I would be pleased to read another book featuring her and the fits and foibles of her small town police department, with all of the bureaucracy and infighting and budget woes, I can understand if she were to retire after such an intensely involving and personal case.
If [author:Inger Ash Wolfe] (I still haven't figured which “North American literary author” wrote the book under this most intriguing pseudo name) sticks true to Hazel's tough-as-nails character, though, I have a feeling she's not going to be quitting anything anytime soon.
