Really liked this latest installment of the Lords of the Underworld series. Darkest Surrender was Strider Lord's story. I must admit I was worried about the whole Strider/Kaia story but in the end appreciated their connection and how they balanced one another. This book came together really well. I've read that some felt that the book was slow at times and I must say that I didn't really think it was. I have grown to not like the whole let me give the reader some main character(s) story and then jump to someone else when there is a BIG cliffhanger! I understand that the author is trying to set up some back story for future books but REALLY?! Do you have to do it when you've built that much momentum just to have it crash into a standstill?
So, that back story I was talking about... we learn what William is up to and we get some of Kane and of course some Paris. Paris is the one Lord everyone is dying to read about because if anyone was hard to land it would be him. However, I think putting Paris into this book was a mistake. We already know he is still obsessed with Sienna. We know that he knows that she was “THE ONE” instantly because he had a physical connection with her he had never had with anyone else before (aka he can't sex it up with the same woman twice). We know all of this and I think the readers were ok with Paris and his whinning up until the last book. At least this reader was. I think this book Paris was a bit much. We see him whoring himself to get information and coming up with nothing AND THE WHINNING! OH and the ambrosia addiction, I'm done with that too. I had to remind myself that I feel for this man, that he is suffering because he lost his one chance at love because of some really jacked up circumstances(Sienna dies during a shoot out and Paris later burns her body to ashes), and more importantly I find myself reminding myself that HIS BOOK IS NEXT and it will be ALL OVER in a few months! :-p
So with that said I am starting to love love love the family these lovable warriors are creating and building. That they can all count on one another, be there for one another no questions asked but I would like to see more love among the ladies of the house. OH I'm dying to read about Ashlyn and Maddox's babies! I feel like they've been in the womb forever!
Okie dokes that would be all for now! Can't wait to see where Gena Showalter takes us next because the lady has her grove back, yes sir!
Kaia started as an interesting heroine, and Strider is yummy, but the fight scenes began to remind me as Xena the warrior princess and I couldn't have as much fun. still, pnr is Geena S.' cup of tea!
