In the late 1800s, a newspaper reporter attempts to impress his lady friend by joining an expedition led by Professor Challenger, which takes him along the Amazon in a search for a hidden valley populated by still-living dinosaurs.

killing anything that moves
the national sport.
Fun read. Plenty of action. A little dated to be sure, especially in social attitudes and casual genocide. But at least the narrator doesn't upend Gladys on the back of a tarn at the end.
