Well its a cute short story that does set up the two protagonists well. Am not sure it does enough for you to consider reading the Theft of Swords which would be a really sad miss:-). Just start with the first book is my recommendation.
The perfect way to dip your toes into the series and get hooked on Hadrian and Royce’s escapades.

Longtime fan or a newcomer, this story offers a fun glimpse into the adventures of Riyria without requiring having read other books in the series.
Quick paced and endearing , The Viscount and the Witch is a fantastic appetizer for the Riyria Chronicles and Revelations.
