A rootless woman traveling across the States hits a speed bump in the form of a sexy redheaded secretary.
Julia Marks walked away from the corporate world to live in her van and travel around the United States. She has no plans and no direction, she just goes with the flow and survives with odd jobs and ingenuity. While house-sitting in Madison and working as a bartender for a month she watches as a redheaded sad beauty walks in and she cannot help herself. Unfortunately after a night of bliss, she finds out that Robin is not only “straight” but engaged. Julia goes on her way, but not without leaving Robin with her number and questions about her sexuality. Robin has more than that on her mind as she has just lost her job and does not know what is in her future, but she knows that Julia has sparked something in her and she wants to explore it.
Nicolette Dane introduces us to Vanlife and a different way of life - no, not lesbanism (laugh). Life on the road in a van, for one I did not know you could put solar panels on a van, I thought that was very cool. I can imagine that the research for this book was a lot of fun. Julia is not just a woman escaping her past, but herself and Dane paints a full-fledged character who is helping herself and not just living in a van. Robin and Julia together are fun and Dane takes the sex slow even though the night bliss happens right away - we are not voyeurs to it. As the relationship grows and deepens, Dane describes the sex in greater detail which is great to read. We get to meet other road people and hear their stories and it actually made my feet itch to hit the road. I better pick up another book and see where it takes me....
