A young woman finds herself caught up in a scam which may cost her the one thing she values more than her life... Cassie Black has been lured back to the criminal profession she gave up - robbing gamblers of their winnings - by a proposition that is just too good to miss. The job goes as planned, except that the target has too much money. It can only mean someone very powerful is going to be very angry indeed. Cassie finds herself on the run from a killer who seems to know her every move in advance. Worse still, he is closing in on the one thing Cassie will do anything to protect.

3 1/2 rounded up. Fairly predictable plot, some one dimensional characters (besides Cassie and March), and a lot more violent than my usual reads, but Michael Connelly sure knows how to tell a story. I listened to the audiobook and the time just flew by! Very entertaining despite the flaws mentioned above. Maybe because I'm going to Vegas next week myself...
The plot and characters in this one come off a bit too straight-forward or cookie-cutter and the story beats do very little to separate things from that which we've seen before. While the writing doesn't ‘pull its punches' and moves at a solid pace, many of the reveals (and even the ending) feel a bit lackluster or even moderately predictable. This leaves very little mystery and intrigue until some over-the-top motivations are haphazardly revealed at the very end. Even the main premise, while efforting to be grandiose with its adjacent story threads, falls a little flat when the main event is centered around robbing someone while they sleep.
