I think I read this several times in the 1970s and 1980s, and found it quite interesting. I haven't read it for a long time, although I still have the book. Perhaps I'd read it more critically now?
Basically, it's a utopian novel about a kind of commune. Would it actually work? Well, some attempts have been made to put it into practice, but without conspicious success: the world is not now covered with lots of Walden Two communes.
However, you can read it just as an example of 1948 science fiction.
