More of a 2.5. This book wasn’t what I expected. I was hoping for more but it was a bit…disjointed. I think I understand what the author was getting at but back then I highly doubt that homesteaders were considering the feelings of the native Americans while they were grabbing their land. Case in point the Trail of Tears in the south…plus the discrimination still happening to this day. The land was stolen and no one wants to talk about it. Laws were put in place to make sure that Native American children wouldn’t be adopted by whites since they were being literally kidnapped by white families and forced into white homes or schools. So the care and apology of the time…not believable, the changes didn’t happen until later and that was effort.

The character herself felt more…modern than from that time period as well. And the romance…is this a time period romance book or is it a Historical Fiction? I got confused for a bit on what I was reading. It got a bit cheesy with the ‘Will they? Won’t they?’ And all the sexy time. Like she was progressive for a woman of that time period if she was just having sex that much and men didn’t think of her as a harlot.

I know this is the author’s great great grandmother which also made me go wtf a lot more. Were there more questions asked or was it just creative liberties? Was it done this way because of the trop sort seems to sell better?

This was from Amazon First reads…I think two months ago. It took me awhile to read it because I just had a hard time with this one. Just getting tired of romance being added to every single fricken genre…like ffs.

It was good, my problem stems from the back-and-forth aspect. I’m not a fan of going back in time then forward and hopping this way and that repeatedly and it was happening from 3 different perspectives. The characters were interesting; the story was alright though at times I went “wait where am I? Oh right…”; the writing was good. If it just wasn’t for the repeated character perspective changes and the time shifts goodness my head spun at one point.

Not bad. There are issues here and there and the characters are meh at times and the suspension of disbelief must be put there but it sort of reminded me of old school cheese and I enjoyed it. The writing was good as far as progression of story, and though there was cheese it wasn't enough to make me go "Oh come oooon". It was a fun little read.
