I have always heard great things about this book and how scary it was, but it was terrible.
First impressions of the book was how blatant the grammatical and spelling errors were. I mean, I like reading Wattpad stories and they are full of errors but it was hard to get past how a published book could have such bad errors. After that you are assaulted with poorly written dialog. I feel like the author tried to be “hip with it” but it comes off cringey and stilted. There are some really bad conversations in this book with Kinderman being the worst conversationalist. The author tries to make him a shrewd detective but what he actually says is nonsensical.
I liked the idea of the book’s approach being scientific and waiving off things that could have a not demonic cause but the author takes this too far. The bed literally coming off the floor, no its random temporary super strength in the child. This goes on for almost the entire book with priests and doctors.
The book has no tension and the possession parts were never scary. The most feeling this book leaves is frustration and boredom. With the expectation of how scary this story is going to be, as talked up on websites and book reviewers, the book lets you down sentience after sentence.
