I wanted to give this series another try, as I really love the idea of a men’s romance book club, but the execution of the story and relationships are terrible. The worst character from the first book, Liv, is back in all her awfulness. She is so rude and condescending to all those around her. The worst parts of the book are where she publicly attacks SA victims to make them report. She blames victims for not speaking up when they can lose their livelihoods and even be pushed out of the industry by the assaulter. The book tries to incorporate feminism, but Liv is the worst depiction of a strong independent female.
The enemies’ part of the story is just her being unreasonably upset that he ate her old takeout in the first book. That’s it…
Besides the horrifying way SA is dealt with in this book the male lead’s big secret was another issue. Liv overreacts when she finds out, like his secret affects her or their relationship in anyway. She demands complete honesty after a few weeks to a traumatic part of his life and is upset when he rightfully tells her it’s not something he can just bring up so quickly with everyone he meets. He even tries to apologize for it despite being a child who did nothing wrong at the time.
