This is another Pride & Prejudice retelling that didn’t work for me. I at least didn’t hate reading this one. The problem I have with the book is that it tries to directly fit in place of the original story but makes changes that go against it. For example, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies is a good reimagining as it fits into place of the original story but brings in a new element and goes from there. This story on the other hand is trying to fit a different story into the P&P mold.
The story revolving around Wickham is the easiest way to show the authors changes. Wickham is immediately identified by the main character as a not so nice guy and every interaction from there only solidifies this. While the main character is immediately attracted to Darcy. This is such a flip from the original plot and its things like this that made me question why they even bothered to force this story as a remix. The author barely keeps the family in the story and changes the location around.
If this didn’t try to be P&P it could have been an interesting story.
