As I started reading this, I was planning on rating it a 2. I was struggling to stay with it and almost put it down during Polina's story. It felt like the first part could have easily been 100 pages shorter. It was almost 60% done before I got hooked. From Shlomith's performance all the way through part 3, I could not stop reading. I cried, I was floored by the performance, I was invested. After completing the book, I initially rated it a 3. The next morning, I had to revise my rating to a 3.5.

maybe an undeserved 5 stars based on story, but the nostalgia and playlist are everything. I want to read another book like this desperately

As a former Detroiter, this made me miss the city. Not only did the location and characters feel familiar, but the pandemic was all too real.
