Will read at some point, just not feeling it at this time
I'm bored. Nothing is gripping me and I can't take any more of Maude's whining.
May come back to it, but this is a trigger topic for my PTSD, so I am having someone else read it first.
Will come back to, was not feeling it at this time.
I just couldn't forsee spending another 400 pages with this character. The MC does not feel real to me, just a characture of stereotypes. The description is painful, I simply can't read another list of descriptors a paragraph long to explain a simple concept.
If you read Gaiman in any of his mediums, you will know he often draws inspiration and characters from mythology. In this book, Gaiman has gathered the tales of Norse Mythology and packaged them in a way that makes the stories accessible to everyone and in a semblance of timeline order.
Norse mythology is something that often appears in comics and fantasy, but I honestly didn't know that much about it and had not dug into the original stories. Reading this was so interesting! It brought depth to characters and books that I already love. Gaiman does an excellent job of including cultural context to help every reader understand the nature of the stories and how they would have been understood.
Obviously, I am not a scholar on the subject, so I can't speak to it's accuracy, but it really does bring some lost myths back to life. If you enjoy mythology, Gaiman, or want to get more depth on the inspiration behind Loki and Thor for the next marvel movie, I highly recommend you read this.
